PH23A ECU Updates

PH23A ECU Updates - TB140201

Issue Date: Feb. 25, 2014 (Revised March 18, 2020)

Scope: PH23A Heaters Manufactured Prior to 2013

Complaint: Heater fails to start successfully. The heater may exhibit a fault code of “Ignite fail or flame extinguish Pro- tection – Code 10” or a “Glow Pin Malfunction – Code 6”. This may be caused by a premature failure of the heaters glow pin.

Resolution: To correct this problem, there was an upgrade to both the glow pin and to ECU. The glow pin now has improved longevity and heating characteristics. The new ECUs have been modified to improve the control profile of the glow pin.

All current glow pins and ECUs in our inventory are of the improved version. The version of ECUs can be identified by the Version Number Stamped on them (Refer to image below). The improved versions are marked with V26 or higher.

Corrective Action:
This problem does not affect all heaters and heaters should only be modified if they fail prematurely. When detecting a glow pin failure, check the version of ECU. If the Version is V25 or less, the ECU should be re- placed along with the glow pin. ECUs do not need to be replaced if they are version V26 or higher.
